The PSA is the frontline in our fight against National’s plans to savagely cut our public services. Much in the same vein as the sticker campaign that Eddie posted on yesterday, the PSA has used humour to get across an incisive message: what the rich elitists in National consider ‘nice to have’ is very different from what we value.
You can create your own version of the ‘nice to have’ poster and put it on The Twitbook or whatever the kids are using these days. I like this one, as Marty pointed out, the long-run cost of the tax cuts for the rich is more than the asset sales hope to bring in:
I made my poster, but I’m computer illiterate. How do I post it on here???
An interesting question. I’d go for facebook rather than here.
But we do need a public graphics/documents repository for this site as well.
How about those of us who have too much sense to let farcebook anywhere near our computers?? maybe Google Docs??
Or you can set up a photobucket account, upload it there, and then link to it from The Standard. Sometimes I upload photos to my twitpic account, via my twitter account, and then I can link to them.
I just wanna know how I can save the picture to my computer from the website. When I click to save it just wants to save the entire page. Help?
What operating system are you using? It may be as simple as right clicking on your image and choosing “save image as” or similar…
It doesn’t allow a save image as, with a right click on firefox.
double click on the image ( hold the button down on the second click or if touch pad keep your finger touching the pad ) to select, then drag and drop it onto your desk top
Hi Sam, it’s being displayed as a background image.
When you right-click on it you should see “view background image”. Click this.
Then you should see the image on its own and proceed as you normally would.
still not working for me!
I got it to download following Felix’s instructions about background images.
Those are the easiest ways (using right click menus) and works across virtually all browsers and OS’s (just changing the words enough to be irritating). The don’t work on the damn tablets and phones with touch screens. No right click..
Hmmm…. someone’s added, in the orange right hand slot, an anti-lesbian comment.
And the righties are going to town adding their own comments… the PSA page needs to be moderated vigilantly.
All the contributions from the public needed to go through moderation before they become visible publicly.
Let them say what they like, Carol. People need to have the confidence of their own convictions. People will always say things we don’t like. We can’t deny them their right to stupidity.
freedom of speech is still very important, moderation is only relevant in certain public situations, such as the moderation practises employed here on The Standard, or the slow but generally fair moderation on Stuff comments.
for something of the Nice to Have variety, open posting is the most honest way to present the point as the unmoderated posts have clearly highlighted the sheer volume of anti-govt-policy statements
Fair enough. Sounds like a reasonable argument for limited moderation.
In this example i prefer the ‘gloves off’ response supplied by unmoderated free speech.
The marketeers and madmen constantly throw their slogans at us, everynow and then it is refreshing for the public to express a right of reply.
Nice to Have: Welfare for the Middle Class
What we Need: A Competent Opposition
Nice to have: a nice leader
Need to have: a strong leader
(choose your party)
You mean like Zimbabwe and Libya?
(I know you should not feed trolls but I could’nt resist!)
..plans to savagely cut our public services.
Translating Commissar Gordon:
“plans to remove some of the useless bureaucrats from our bloated public sector.”
Now the link has changed and redirects you to the fuckwits nact website??????
Oh deary me… it looks like things were all a bit too hard for dear old PSA with regard to keeping this genius of a campaign running…
Either that, or its only down until they can insure that all statements have been approved by the Commissars.
Meh, who cares – either way it demonstrates just how pathetic and simple minded the PSA actually are.
Last year, the government handed an extra $20 million of taxpayer’s money to Warner Bros.
The government has given $4 million in tax-payers’ money to China Southern Airlines.
The same government has given a “loan” of $43 million of taxpayers money to TV3/TV4.
At a time when Bill English is telling us that cuts to social services are inevitable and some programmes are “nice to have” – not “must have – it begs the question:
Why is corporate welfarism “must have”? And why is Early Childhood Education simply “nice to have” – and being cut in the process?
